A Real Winner in the College-Admissions Process July 16, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a very useful book. As someone involved in college teaching and advising both here and abroad for 38 years, I find this book full of practical hints about how high school students can write winning essays to get into college. Proctor's book emphasizes the "hook," what distinguishes one essay from another and what students can use to minimize the anxieties of the college-admission process. Her description of ten real students who have successfully navigated the college-admission process is of real benefit to high school students and to their parents, as well as to academic advisers. This book is a real winner.
Essential reading for all college-bound students July 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pam Proctor has done the impossible: she's created a how-to book on college admissions that is both informative AND inspiring. The College Hook will motivate many young people to find out what is special about themselves. An added bonus is that the book is very hands-on, with resumes, activity lists, and essays of real students. Reading what teenagers write in their college essays is a fascinating peek into their world. Any student - or parent - who reads The College Hook will come away armed and encouraged to tackle the college application process with confidence.
This book will increase your odds BIG TIME!! July 12, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wow! Talk about a book that should have come out a long time ago. This is a very practical and smart book to help you navigate through this increasingly difficult admissions world. All high school students should start reading this as juniors!
