Not as good as others here suggest November 3, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Maverick guide to Bermuda didn't meet the high expectations set by other reviews here. There isn't a whole lot to the book, it isn't full of secret suggestions as others suggested. Instead there is much on the obvious basics and little beyond. Our family did enjoy the chapter discussing some of the colorful history of Bermuda, but otherwise I regret the purchase. I suspect one of the other guidebooks would have been a better choice. I do recommend Bermuda!
Directed us to delightful places not in any other guide book December 31, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
After taking a tour at the Botanical Gardens, we followed Ms. Harriott's recommedation and ate at the hospital cafe across the street. And who did we see but our tour guide from the gardens. Boy, was he surprised to see us! How did we ever find out about this place?? The Maverick Guide, of course. The fish cakes are delicious, by the way. This book is a great way to get to out-of-the way places and a real flavor of Bermuda. Highly recommended!
Great For Tourists, Bermudians AND Travel Agents! July 30, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is incredible; Ms. Harriott obviously knows Bermuda extremely well and has checked and re-checked her information. As someone specializing in helpling people plan their Bermuda vacations I constantly use the book as a resource. It has been invaluable to me.
As far as the slight error mentioned in another review I don't think there is a soul out there that doesn't know September 11th as the date our world crashed down. It was obviously an editorial mistake!
Worried about the accuracy of this book..... July 30, 2004 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
Page 22: "Important Note: Since the events of September 9, 2001, to ensure the safety of your flight the airline rules have changed dramatically..."
Although the parts I did read I enjoyed, this seemed like rather a large error and made me question the accuracy of the rest of the information. Unless I missed something in the news on 9/9/01.
The ONLY Book You Need June 9, 2000 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
I am in my 16th year in Bermuda and consequently have read dozens of books about Bermuda. This one is it. Anyone asking for information on this country will receive my highest recommendation for this extensively researched work. The scope and detail, the double cover map, and the easy reading style provide an invaluable resource for not only tourists but new residents and locals as well. Every Bermudian home should have this book on hand.
