Product Description Reverend Simon Jackson has always felt destined to lead, and he's done a good job of it -- having transformed his small Houston church into one of the most respected and renowned in the region. But while the good Reverend's been busy tending his flock, his family's gone astray. His nineteen-year-old daughter, Rachel, gives new meaning to "baby mama drama." David, the oldest at twenty-seven, has been spiraling into a life of crime ever since his promising football career came to an end. Blessedly, Jonathan, Simon's beloved middle child, is in control of his life and is poised to take his side as associate pastor -- or so everybody thinks. At the heart of the Jackson family is Loretta, the Reverend's wife. She has always been devoted to her husband, but she's beginning to realize that enabling him to give more to the church than to their children was her biggest mistake. As things continue to fall apart and secrets are revealed, will Loretta be able to help her husband reunite their tattered family...before it's too late?

A moving read! November 16, 2008 This is a story about redemption, and about overcoming diffcults that can destroy your life and others, Simon Jackson is a Reverend who main pride and joy is his church, His three children are out of control and in this novel he finds out what is most important. His children. The love of his wife is such a tender moment in this book, The way that she dies and what she wanted for her family, and the love of a man who did not once stray, you don't find this type of book often, relax, read and enjoy.
Her Best One August 25, 2008 This was by far the best book I've read by Reshonda. I am so angry at myself for letting it sit on my bookshelf so long before reading it. I truly enjoyed this one, more so than some of her others.
Finally Some Truth July 6, 2008 I'm glad I read this book and I will be giving it to my mother to read. I grew up in church as well. My step father was a pastor and still to this day he neglects his family. My mother also sits by and says nothing, not to him anyways. She always complains to me and my grandfather about that loser of a husband she has. I also have a half sister that reminds me of Rachel. She is pregnant with her fourth child by the fourth father. And of course my mother is her babysitter. I think this resulted because of neglect from her father. And to make matters worse I don't even think he was called to be a pastor. He's been doing it for over 40 years and only has about 10 members in his church. If God's not in it it will not prosper. Plus the Bible says somewhere but I don't know the verse or book, that a man who neglects his family will never be blessed. His household should come first. Just like the message in this book. I can't wait to let my mother read this. Maybe it'll knock some sense into her and she'll realize this crap is making her sick.
