We all have a powerful need to know that someone in this world loves us and accepts us unconditionally. We especially crave our parents' blessing, and without it, we may become angry and driven, or detached and empty. Wemay also feel this hurtful lack between brothers and sisters, husbandsand wives, or even within our religious congregation.
Now family counselors Gary Smalley and John Trent, Ph.D., show us how wecan transform our lives - even when it is no longer possible to receive our parents' blessing. They reveal the five key elements of the blessing, describe the most common home situations where a blessing has been denied(one of them may be ours), and offer practical, effective methods to healbroken hearts and families. Most important, they explain how we can bea blessing, and pass on that life-changing gift to our love ones.
The Blessing October 13, 2008 Must read... This book is great for all readers but especially for fathers is extend blessings to their wives, children and back to their parents
When something feels missing, this book might help you find it . . . May 29, 2008 This book was a great help to my husband and me when we sought to demystify his brother's suicide. Smalley and Trent clearly and practically explain what a blessing is and is not in addition to giving the reader compelling reasons to make immediate changes in one's life. If you are interested in creating a well-built foundation for your family, this book is an excellent place to begin.
Encouraged to do more as a father December 11, 2007 While I felt there was one or two missteps with the use of Old Testament examples, this book challenged me to speak more into the lives of my children.

This book fully describes the Blessing given and withheld in families, but I thought it could go into depth more about how to deal with the lack of your family's blessing.
