Excellent Book November 30, 2008 This book is excellent. There were many things I read in the book that were sort of "ah hah" moments for me. This book hit very close to home on many aspects. Thanks for such a great book!
Greatest book on autism ever!!! November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is, hands down, the greatest book on autism ever. before the end of chapter one, I had a deep and profound understanding of why my nephew does some of the things he does. It's so uplifting and enlightening to hear it as if from the mouth of a child who suffers through this.
I particularly enjoy the way the author expresses the hardships of the condition in a positive manner and allows me to see more than the limitations it imposes. I believe that I, and my family, will benefit greatly from this book and it will definitely be a stocking stuffer for everyone in the immediate family. I wish it was required reading, not just for those dealing with children who have autism. I believe it could help everyone to learn a little empathy and truly see the world through someone else' eyes.
Very useful for parents and grandparents alike November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a father of a child with Autism on the lower spectrum. I think anyone in my position should be reminded of the challenges these little guys and girls face each day. Some have it harder than others and not all characteristics exist in every child with Autism but it certainly is helpful to know "why" your child is behaving a certain way or not responding appropriately to "time-outs" (for example) as your other children may.
My favorite parts of the book talk about the importance of building your child's self-esteem and teaching him to cope with the world including other children who may tease or ridicule him. Self-esteem will help anyone in life but particularly these children who are faced with more challenges than the rest of us.
I highly recommend this book as it will bring these excellent points into your consciousness the next time your child is struggling and you will deal with the situation more appropriately.
A book every parent of an autistic child or child with Aspergers should own! October 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is simple and to the point. I have a daughter with Aspergers and a son with Autism. This book put into words a lot of thoughts and feelings my children and I have. It gives lots of insight and positive views on relating to and raising children on the autistic spectrum. I love it so much, I've read it twice! What an uplifting and fulfilling book! A MUST READ!!!
Ten Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew October 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a grandparent to a child with autism, this was a book I wish EVERYONE would read. If your child is recently diagnosed with autism, you will find this book to be both informational and critical to understanding the child with autism. It is encouraging and uplifting. It offers a sense of hope and purpose to both the parent and child where there is often the feelings of confusion, misinformation and helplessness. There is an additional book by this same author about what TEACHERS ought to know about the child with autism and I plan to definitely read that one and share it as well. If you want to know more about autism, this is the book for you. It is an easy read and, as I mentioned, very informational.
